Me and my work

Introducing

Having studied music and composition at Edinburgh and Oxford Universities, I have developed an interest in trying to create a modern style based on acoustic instruments, working with a mix of harmonic and gestural influences, hopefully to create an interesting and unique synthesis. I’ll upload new music to this page when possible, and I hope you enjoy it!

Quartet: full and empty streets

As part of the Ligeti Quartet’s Workout! scheme (https://ligetiquartet.com/workout), they very kindly chose my piece for quartet, full and empty streets, for a playthrough! Here it is, and do check out the whole series on their YouTube as there’s some seriously interesting work on show:

Piano miniature: Marina is walking in the rain and sees a canal

An example of a series of small miniatures for piano I’ve been writing on and off. The title refers to when the photographer of the lovely images on this site got lost in Amsterdam.

Orchestra: Bodies into new forms mutated

A small orchestral piece based on a melodically discontinuous idea.

Concerto: Rhapsody for two pianos and orchestra

A larger-scale piece, with some virtuoso stuff for the pianists!
